How I Hate the City TrafficWe all need to get around and for many of us this means hopping in the car. The car is the most widely used means of transport which is hardly surprising when we see so many of them wherever we go. There are unfortunately a few drawbacks to the car: it requires insurance, maintenance and many other costs, but most irritatingly, you can only ever drive when there's nothing in front of you. This is to say that you can often be governed by the car in front, or even the whole train of cars in front. This can be a big problem during peak times and in build up areas. City Traffic is the pet hate of many a motorist who use their cars to get to work. They all must dread the journey back home sitting in traffic with no end in sight. There are, of course, traffic announcements and clever satellite navigation programmes that can divert you around the hold-ups; which may provide a well received lifeline. There can be no easy solution and in our ever increasingly busy society, driven by working long hours and commuting to the city, we have to make sacrifices. Public transport and roads alike have to deal with higher volumes; it's just a fact of modern city life. |
